What do Sand Cast Associates Do?
In Sand Cast, we make the Lug plate and Swash plate parts for the automobile variable compressor, by methods of sand casting.



What is Melt Deck?
- Melt Deck is where the scrap and iron, along with other additives, are melted down.
- After being tested for quality, the metal is tapped into the ladle. Tapping refers to the process of pouring the molten metal from the furnace into the first ladle before it is ultimately poured into the sand mold.
What is Finishing?
The Finishing Department is where the parts are refined by trimming, using shot blast machines, tested for quality, and shipped.




What is the work environment like?
- Think of it as a “non-air-conditioned garage mechanic shop”- it is hot in summer and cool in winter.
- We work around furnaces to melt down scrap/iron, to make ductile iron parts for automobile variable compressors.
- We must wear 100% cotton clothing & long-sleeve shirts due to working around furnaces.
- Hearing protection is required and provided along with all other PPE required.
What are shifts like?
- Day shift: Monday – Thursday starting at 6:00am
- Night shift: Sunday – Wednesday starting at 8:00pm
- 10 hour shifts and overtime is a requirement of our job.

What are the physical requirements of the job?
- Constantly: Stand, sit, walk, use hands to handle/grasp/feel, manipulate fingers by using hand tools.
- Occasionally: reach with hands from waist to shoulder level, reach with hands from shoulder level to overhead, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl, climb & balance (climbing stairs, ladders, etc.)
- Melt Deck is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50lbs.
- Sand Cast Finishing is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25lbs.
- Others duties within normal limits: Normal to corrective vision (important for part quality inspection), communicate effectively by talking and hearing, use hands and finders to operate computer keyboard and other office equipment.
- Use of pallet jacks and forklift driving may be a requirement in some positions.
